Engineering

The Mekong is an active meandering river, eroding the bed and banks in some stretches and depositing sediment in others. River bank protection must take a holistic view of the river, aiming to maintain stream stability and facilitate both sediment and water transport, and not negatively impact upstream or downstream. Connectivity projects such as bridge construction require detailed computational hydraulic modelling, due to the profound impacts on sediment and water transport and associated properties.

Typically in the past, concrete revetments have been a frequently adopted hard engineering strategy; however such static engineering lacks the ability to withstand changing climatic conditions and results in long term scour and eventual failure of structures. MMA utilises complex hydrodynamic models to obtain time series of variables such as velocity, flow and water depth distribution, to estimate consequential hydraulic effects such as scour depths to engineering designs. We are then able to deliver recommendations for your particular project.
