Water Resources

Mekong Modelling Associates realises that effective management of the Mekong River Basin requires effective management on a basin-wide scale. Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) at the provincial, national and transboundary levels is therefore a central concept to the coordination and management of resources in the Mekong Basin.

Multiple demands for finite freshwater water resources due to population growth and an increase in economic activity are often met by practices that exploit diminishing soil and forestry resources, which in turn negatively impact water resources. The successful implementation of IWRM can prevent environmental, economic and social losses, through maintaining effective management which considers both the demands and threats to limited freshwater sources.

MMA offers independent and practical advice, from the initial investigation phase, to modelling, planning and management strategies for particular regions.
