Heavy Rainfall in Phnom Penh -Update 2020

Update for 2020: Another high rainfall, this time in November (21)  - in less than an hour around 90mm and over 300mm/hr in the first15 minutes.

Allthough it was been a very dry rainy season in 2015, storms on Friday 31 and Saturday 1 August 2015 caused widespread flooding of roads and suburbs of Phnom Penh.  Update - in July 2016 it looked like potential evapotranspiration would be greater than the rainfall during the month until 25 July when 80mm fell in little more than an hour with peak intensity over 250mm/hr. Not surprisingly surface water drains were surcharged even though improvements had been made over the previous year.

We measured the August 2015 storm as peaking at 30mm in 15 minutes, 75mm over 2 hours 83mm over 5 hours.  Thats maybe only a 1:5 year storm in the tropics though so there may be more to come. Our manually read gauge confirmed the tipping bucket raingauge readings very closely. Link to data - http://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=IPHNOM...
